About Me

I am a renaissance aging lady living in Frederiksted, St Croix, whose previous life was spent by the sea in south Florida. The power, strength and calmness of the ocean environment has embraced my soul and the connection I have though my emotions and memories are expressed through my art work.

Being self-taught, I continue to study on line, attend artist workshops and paint en plein air weekly at different island locations with a local group called The Palletteers. My artistic ability continues to improve and evolve as I am always seeking new exciting techniques and continue to dream in technicolor. I continue to read, write and scuba dive

Currently in my art, I am striving to capture the mesmerizing beauty of our local flowers, historic architecture, people playing and ocean waves utilizing different mediums to express different atmospheric conditions

Quote for the day from Ladis Nizer 1902...
"A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his brian is a craftsmanl; but a man who works with his hands, brain and heart is an ARTIST!

Finished a watercolor workshop and have rolled right into an acrylic for 9-sessions. This is the month that I am going to work on landscapes and flowers with a focus on shadows. Garden Stairs was created over a watercolor wash and finished up with acrylic. As to Shadows... take a look the next time you are in daylight... a white shirt's shadow is darker than a black shirt in the sunlight. Shadows are 2-values darker than the object and lighter in value as you travel away. Interesting stuff!

And here goes January! You know I just like to paint and hate the showing part, but guess it makes me finish up my work. Opening a show at Polly's Cafe on the 8th of February and I think this pair of Moko-Jumbies will be a hit.

One would think my life is a little choatic, but in reality I am a person of routine. I have become a serious painter and spend long hours in the studio. I strive to paint every day and this has become my job to develope my skills. I will continue to strive to think abstractly, draw shapes and look for the light, atmosphere, value. Light is the most important element.

Back at it and have decided that painting is all about observation. I will strive to think abstractly, not look at the object in a traditionaly manor. Look at light, atmosphere, value, color edges and shapes. Dwell on light for it is the most important element. Then let the paint flow.

Spent the holidays with the Florida Family and squeezed in a trip to Grand Bahamas. Visited two of my favorite dive sites, had dolphins visit and did a little hunting. Good thing I dive with kids a century younger than me who can get me in and out of the sea
